About Us

Did you know that approximately 400,000 children are in the U.S. Foster Care System each year? The idea for A Walk for the One was sparked in 2020 when a young woman who had a passion for walking in nature learned this staggering statistic. Motivated to transform this awareness into action, a bold plan took shape: to walk 400,000 miles. At first, the goal seemed daunting, but with over 300 million people in the U.S., walking 400,000 miles became a feasible endeavor — if everyone united in the effort.

A Walk for the One believes that as a community, we can raise awareness and support for children in foster care by walking one mile for each child experiencing this difficult journey. While the number of children is a central part of our mission, our heart is focused on the individual. Every child is precious. Every child deserves safety, love, and support. No child should ever be a faceless, nameless statistic. Every ONE matters, and no ONE should feel invisible.

Above all, we are inspired by the example of Jesus Christ, who walked alongside people through every season of life, always sharing love, hope, and compassion with those who needed it most.

Mission

A Walk for the One exists to build community and provide resources for children in — and aging out of — foster care, while spreading the hope of Jesus and equipping them for a future filled with purpose and belonging.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31
